Fellowships and Awards

Our fellowship, membership and awards ceremony recognise excellence in the science and practice of pharmaceutical medicine, including education, teaching, policy, and engagement. These awards are presented annually in recognition of those who have worked towards our mission to advance the science and practice of pharmaceutical medicine by developing and maintaining competence, ethics and integrity and the highest professional standards in the specialty for the benefit of the public.

The decision to admit an individual as Fellow, Honorary Fellow, Honorary Member or Member by Distinction is made by the Board of Trustees, after consideration of the report of the Fellowship and Awards Committee.

Election to Fellowship (FFPM)

Eligibility for Fellowship of the Faculty (FFPM) is based on experience and seniority in the profession; it is not dependent on time served as a Member (MFPM). Fellowship recognises achievement at a high level in the profession and confers peer recognition.

There are two routes to Fellowship of the Faculty:

  • Application via current Membership
  • Direct application

Applicants on both routes must include with their application evidence of their contribution to the practice and science of pharmaceutical medicine; and their contribution, or intended contribution, to the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine or its mission.

Applications can be by nomination from a current Fellow in good standing, or by self-nomination in which case the application must be supported by a current Fellow in good standing.

Detailed criteria, evidencing recommendations and details of how to apply are described here (pdf).

The Fellowship and Awards Committee meets every year in May and can only use the information submitted to make a decision, so applicants are urged to provide sufficient, relevant detail, supported where possible by examples.

You can find the annual fees for Fellowship on our Fees and Payments page. Please note: new Fellows will be charged Fellowship fees from 1 July 2024.

Applications and nominations will be closed on Thursday 4 April 2024.

Election of Honorary Fellows and Honorary Members

FPM Fellows (FFPM) can nominate individuals for Honorary Fellowship or Honorary Membership. All nominations must be seconded by another FPM Fellow (FFPM).

Honorary Fellowship recognises the recipient’s eminence within their own field or their exceptional contribution to pharmaceutical medicine.

Honorary Membership recognises those who have made significant contributions in the fields of research, teaching, medicine or the practice of pharmaceutical medicine.

Honorary Fellows and Members need not be medically qualified and these honours are strictly limited. Information about nominating someone for an award is available here (pdf).

Nominations will be closed on Thursday 4 April 2024.

Election of Members by Distinction

FPM Fellows (FFPM) can nominate individuals for Membership by Distinction. All nominations must be seconded by another FPM Fellow (FFPM).

This is an exceptional route to Membership for medics who have made a significant contribution beyond the normal day-to-day practice of pharmaceutical medicine. These awards are limited and may not be made every year.

Members by Distinction have the same rights, privileges and obligations as Members and are required to pay an annual membership subscription and so must agree to being nominated. Members by Distinction will be able to apply for Fellowship (FFPM). Information about nominating someone for Membership by Distinction is available here (pdf).

Nominations will be closed on Thursday 4 April 2024.
