Election to Fellowship (FFPM)

Eligibility for Fellowship of FPM (FFPM) is based on experience and seniority in the profession; it is not dependent on time served as a Member of FPM (MFPM). Fellowship recognises achievement at a high level in the profession and confers peer recognition.

Who Can Apply?

Applications can be by nomination from a current Fellow in good standing, or by self-nomination in which case the application must be supported by a current Fellow in good standing.

There are two routes to apply:

Membership (MFPM) Route
For senior pharmaceutical physicians who are current Members of FPM (MFPM)

Direct Application Route
For senior pharmaceutical physicians, including Affiliate and Associate members and non-members of FPM.

How is Fellowship Assessed?

Applications are reviewed by the FPM Fellowship and Awards Committee.

Applications are assessed against Fellowship-level standards of:

Seniority and professional standing
Individual contribution to the practice and science of pharmaceutical medicine
Contribution to the work and objectives of FPM

The Committee can only assess what is evidenced in the application.

Support

All self-nominations applications must be supported by a current Fellow of FPM.

If you do not already have a Fellow who can support your application, we would recommend that you reach out to Fellows of FPM – who can be identified by the postnominals FFPM – using social media platforms like LinkedIn or via FPM Connect.

FAQs

Fellowship is a recognition of achievement at a high level in the profession of pharmaceutical medicine and confers peer recognition.

It is based on experience and seniority in the specialty of pharmaceutical medicine and is open to those with specialty training in other disciplines and those who qualified in medicine outside the UK.

Applicants should not be in the phase of their career where Fellowship of FPM could be used explicitly for the purpose of advancing their careers.

Yes, Fellows of FPM in good standing (with fully paid FPM annual subscription) can nominate, please follow the right route:

If you are nominating a Member (MFPM), please follow the Application via current Membership (MFPM) route.
If you are nominating an Affiliates, Associates, Honoraries or other pharmaceutical physicians who are not members of FPM, please follow the Direct application route.

Please note that nominations from current Fellows must also include a short letter of assent from the individual being nominated confirming that a) they are aware they are being proposed for Fellowship; b) they are happy to be proposed; and c) they accept that, if the nomination is successful, they will be required to pay the Fellowship subscription fee with effect from the next applicable start date.

The Fellowship and Awards Committee can only use the information submitted in the application to make a decision, so applicants are urged to provide sufficient, relevant detail, supported where possible by examples. Each statement should contain minimum 250 words.

In both instances, it is expected that examples should describe sustained contributions made over a period of time, rather than one-off occurrences.

Evidence for the statement on route chosen and for the two “Contribution” statements should be clear and of substance. Please do not copy and paste material from your CV or provide links to social media profiles by way of references.

Applications where material has been pasted in from these sources, or where one or more statements is incomplete, or missing entirely, will not be passed to the Fellowship and Awards Committee for consideration.
