We are the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine (FPM), a charity and professional membership body on a mission to advance the science and practice of pharmaceutical medicine.
We set the highest scientific and ethical standards to help unlock the full potential of new medicines and make sure they are as safe as possible for patients.
We provide a collective voice for our 1,600 members who are striving to advance the research and development of new medicines to help prevent and overcome diseases that impact on the lives of patients worldwide. They are all medically-qualified and employed within the pharmaceutical industry, research organisations, drug regulatory authorities – or working as independent consultants.
Our mission is to advance the science and practice of pharmaceutical medicine by working to develop and maintain competence, ethics and integrity and the highest professional standards in the specialty for the benefit of the public.

If you are a physician working in pharmaceutical medicine, we are your professional body!
We provide a collective voice for our 1,600 members who are striving to advance the research and development of new medicines to help prevent and overcome diseases that impact on the lives of patients worldwide. They are all medically-qualified and employed within the pharmaceutical industry, research organisations, drug regulatory authorities – or working as independent consultants.
We set the curriculum for the training programme ‘Pharmaceutical Medicine Specialty Training (PMST)’, which guides clinicians through the early stages of their careers in pharmaceutical medicine.
After successfully completing PMST, a trainee can apply to be on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register for pharmaceutical medicine.
FPM sets the curricula for and organises examinations relating to pharmaceutical medicine for the:
• Certificate in Pharmaceutical Medicine (CPM), which is a respected qualification that serves as a hallmark of excellence in the field of pharmaceutical medicine. It endorses the holder’s expertise and proficiency in pharmaceutical science, clinical research, and regulatory affairs.
• Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine (DPM), which is a defining moment in the career of any pharmaceutical physician. It affirms their knowledge and expertise in our specialty, and their commitment to enhancing the health of society.
Since 2012, all doctors with a licence to practise in the UK must legally undergo medical revalidation, usually every five years, if they wish to retain their licence.
Supported by our Responsible Officer, FPM provides guidance on how our connected doctors can meet the requirements of Revalidation. Through a programme of annual appraisals, we connect our appraisees with an appraiser and provide access to our ePortfolio system.
We provide an authoritative voice on pharmaceutical medical issues. We work closely with medical faculties and royal colleges, governmental and regulatory bodies, and many other organisations to advocate on behalf of our members.
Our main activities in this area include:
• Developing policies on key topics that may impact on the work of our members
• Responding to external consultations from government and regulatory authorities
• Promoting high ethical standards for our members and the wider profession
• Representing the views of our members in a wide variety of forums
FPM have a range of educational and training offerings, such as:
• DPM Training Programme which has been designed to prepare candidates for CPM and DPM exams.
• In Company Training Programmes for organisations in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Short Courses and Webinars. These include whole day and half day online and in person courses. Past topics include: The ABPI Code in a Day, Pharmaceutical Medicine in a Day and Real World Evidence in a Day.
• Managing Respiratory Diseases e-Learning Series, a free-of-charge series focused on the management of viral respiratory diseases.
We also host a wide range of events for members and non-members alike, including our flagship annual events such as the FPM Annual Conference and Annual Awards, alongside a diverse programme of professional development, networking, and members-only events.
Our events provide opportunities to share knowledge, build professional connections, and engage with the latest developments in pharmaceutical medicine.
