FPM Strategy 2020-2022

FPM-LogoThe Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine (FPM) is a membership body that sets standards, educates, influences and reviews how pharmaceutical interventions, diagnostics and devices are innovated and delivered in healthcare. We are an independent organisation, closely affiliated to the three Royal Colleges of Physicians in the UK and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges.

Founded in 1989, FPM is based in Islington, North London, with a staff of ten. Alongside our medical training programmes and examinations to improve quality, we promote probity and ethics in the profession and advocate a better understanding of medicines amongst the general public.

Our 1,500 members are medically qualified and are either practising pharmaceutical physicians or have a professional interest in the specialty. 80% of the membership work in the UK, with the remainder spread globally in over 30 countries.

Pharmaceutical Medicine is the medical specialty concerned with the discovery, development, evaluation, licensing and monitoring of medicines and the medical aspects of their marketing for the benefit of patients and the health of the community.

Our members contribute to almost every aspect of the evidence base that forms the regulatory documentation supporting appropriate use of medicines and medical devices; essential documentation that is updated as ongoing development continues and further evidence becomes available. These documents provide guidance to prescribers, patients, their families and carers.
