Debate: Is the Current Pharma Model Sustainable?
“This house believes the current pharma model is not sustainable and needs to change – time for a revolution?”
The world of pharma is changing rapidly. AI is changing how we do things. Regulations may lag behind. Drugs are increasingly being developed and/or manufactured in China. Startups struggle to get funding. Energy uses up, recyclable packaging is of necessity, and transport costs may all impact how we do things.
In this debate, you’ll hear from both sides of the argument, whether the industry needs a revolution. The speakers will highlight the economic pressures on health systems, sociodemographic change, antimicrobial resistance, misinformation; the need to change is too important to wait – is it better to do something than nothing?
They will also address how fast can we change the current model? Do we need to change it? Is slow and steady change what’s needed for a sustainable future?
Workshop 1: Managing AI in Pharma
Taming the Beast: Managing AI in Pharma is a practical workshop designed to help pharmaceutical physicians harness generative and agentic AI responsibly within the highly regulated pharmaceutical environment. Participants will explore where AI can create measurable value, from evidence generation and publications to knowledge management, insights and operational efficiency. The course will address data and technology readiness, compliance, organisational culture and change management, with Medical teams positioned as key leaders of responsible adoption. Through interactive exercises and case-based discussion, participants will learn how to build cross-functional alliances with Legal, Regulatory, Works Councils and end users to deliver compliant, practical and sustainable AI transformation.
Workshop 2: Building Your Personal Impact
In this workshop, you will practise how to inspire yourself and others, develop a simple yet powerful storytelling technique, and confidently communicate why you do what you do in a way that creates curiosity and engagement. You will also learn how to choose the LinkedIn strategy that best supports your professional goals, understand why LinkedIn should be treated as a personal website rather than a dull online CV, and identify common mistakes in your headline along with effective alternatives. Finally, you will discover the one LinkedIn activity that deserves your time and attention to maximise your professional impact and results.

Influencing effectively depends on the ability to collaborate across diverse teams, perspectives and priorities. This practical workshop will explore how to build trust, align diverse stakeholders and navigate complex cross‑functional environments to deliver impact. Participants will explore alliance‑building and constructive negotiation, with a focus on medical leaders’ unique role in connecting scientific, clinical, commercial and patient‑centred viewpoints. Through interactive exercises and real‑world scenarios, you will practise how to adapt your influencing style, create psychological safety, and drive collective problem‑solving. These are skills to help enable you to lead with clarity, empathy and strategic intent in high‑stakes settings.
Panel Discussion: Bringing Children’s Perspectives & Guardian Voices into Clinical Research
Meaningful paediatric clinical research depends on integrating the lived experiences of children and the insights of their guardians throughout study design and execution. Actively capturing patient and caregiver perspectives can improve protocol feasibility, reduce participation burden, strengthen recruitment and retention, and ensure outcomes reflect what matters most to families. In this session we will discuss how best to embed child-appropriate engagement strategies and guardian voices into research to foster more ethical, patient-centered development and ultimately support the generation of evidence that is both clinically relevant and impactful for paediatric care.
