Membership (MFPM)

We provide a collective voice for our 1,600 members who are striving to advance the research and development of new medicines to help prevent and overcome diseases that impact on the lives of patients worldwide. Our members are all medically-qualified and employed within the pharmaceutical industry, research organisations, drug regulatory authorities – or working as independent consultants.

If you are a physician working in pharmaceutical medicine, we are your professional body!

Am I eligible for Membership (MFPM)?

Membership of FPM, and the right to use the postnominals MFPM, is open to any medical practitioner who:

Has a medical qualification listed in the WHO Directory
Has current registration with the GMC or the relevant professional body in the country in which you are practising or where you were awarded your primary medical qualification
Has a minimum of two years’ experience in a pharmaceutical medical role
Holds one of the post graduate qualifications listed below

You do not have to be based in the UK to apply, over 20% of our members are from across the world.

Qualifications accepted for Membership

Awarded by FPM:

Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine (DPM) awarded by FPM
Diploma in Human Pharmacology (DHP) awarded by FPM
Diploma in Experimental Therapeutics (DET) awarded by FPM

External Qualifications*

Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine awarded by Free University, Brussels FPM can only accept this qualification as suitable for MFPM for those graduates who were awarded the Diploma on or before 1 July 2025.
Diploma of Advanced Studies in Pharmaceutical Medicine awarded by University of Basel/ECPM
CEMDC Cooperative European Medicines Development Course awarded by Semmelweis University, Hungary –Please note: this programme was changed since it was accepted originally, and FPM can only accept this qualification as suitable for MFPM for those graduates who were awarded the Diploma on or before 31 December 2019.
Masters in Preclinical and Clinical Research and Development of Drugs awarded by University of Milano Bicocca, Italy
Masters / Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine awarded by Trinity College Dublin, Ireland–Please note: both courses are now closed. FPM can only accept these qualifications as suitable for MFPM for those graduates who were awarded the Masters/Diploma in or before July 2025.
Masters / Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine awarded by Hibernia College, Ireland FPM can only accept these qualifications as suitable for MFPM for those graduates who were awarded the Masters/Diploma on or before 1 July 2025.
Diploma in Medicines Development awarded by Stellenbosch University, South Africa FPM can only accept this qualification as suitable for MFPM for those graduates who were awarded the Diploma on or before 1 July 2025.
Masters / Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine awarded by University of Surrey, UK FPM can only accept these qualifications as suitable for MFPM for those graduates who were awarded the Masters/Diploma on or before 1 July 2025.
Masters / Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine awarded by James Lind Institute, Switzerland

Qualifications that are not* awarded by FPM are subject to periodic review.

We reserve the right to remove them from the list at any time. FPM cannot accept responsibility for courses or programmes run, or qualifications awarded, by third parties.

The Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine, awarded by FPM, is recognised across the profession and will retain its standing indefinitely. It is also the only qualification that combines GMC-recognised status with globally-aligned PharmaTrain standard training.

Celebrate your achievement of being awarded Membership of FPM at our Annual Awards Ceremony. New Members will be invited to attend the ceremony, where they will be formally recognised and welcomed as Members of FPM.

How much does it cost?

There is no joining fee and we will invoice you a pro rata amount for your membership subscription from the day you join to 31 December.

We also have some concessionary rates, for example if you work part time, find out more here.

For the following year, our subscription period runs from 1 January to 31 December each year and you’ll receive an invoice by email in mid December.

FAQs

Fast-track application for PMST trainees

If you are enrolled in, or have completed, PMST and have passed the DPM exams you can apply to become a Member of FPM (MFPM) via our fast-track membership form.

Revalidating?

Becoming a member of FPM may create a prescribed connection for revalidation now or in the future, please contact FPM’s revalidation team for advice revalidation@fpm.org.uk.
