Affiliate membership

We provide a collective voice for our 1,600 members who are striving to advance the research and development of new medicines to help prevent and overcome diseases that impact on the lives of patients worldwide. Our members are all medically-qualified and employed within the pharmaceutical industry, research organisations, drug regulatory authorities – or working as independent consultants.

If you are a physician working in pharmaceutical medicine, we are your professional body!

Am I eligible for Affiliate membership?

Affiliate membership is open to any medical practitioner who:

Works in, or is able to demonstrate a professional interest and connection with, pharmaceutical medicine
Has a medical qualification listed in the WHO Directory
Has current registration with the GMC or the relevant professional body in the country in which you are practising or where you were awarded your primary medical qualification

You do not have to be based in the UK to apply, over 20% of our members are from across the world. Its easy to apply and you can be an approved Affiliate member in just a few weeks.

For applicants who are not yet working directly in pharmaceutical medicine, the following examples illustrate ways to demonstrate a professional connection with the specialty:

Engage in learning opportunities by actively participating in relevant courses, workshops, and professional events.
Pursue further qualifications such as postgraduate degrees or certifications in pharmaceutical medicine, clinical pharmacology, or related disciplines.
Contribute through projects within your current role, for example in areas such as therapeutics, drug safety, pharmacovigilance, medical devices, clinical trials etc.

The FPM Assessors will base their decision solely on the information provided in the application. Applicants are therefore strongly encouraged to include sufficient and relevant detail, supported by examples wherever possible.

How much does it cost?

There is no joining fee and we will invoice you a pro rata amount for your membership subscription from the day you join to 31 December.

We also have some concessionary rates, for example if you work part time, find out more here.

For the following year, our subscription period runs from 1 January to 31 December each year and you’ll receive an invoice by email in mid December.

What are the benefits of membership?

As an Affiliate member, you get all the same benefits as our Members and Fellows. These are:

Be part of a growing organisation with connections across pharmaceutical medicine, science, industry, regulators, and government

Affiliate membership, however, does not confer the right to vote on FPM matters or the right to append any postnominals or words denoting membership of FPM.
