Preventing Sexual Harassment at Work

Posted on: Monday 1 September 2025

At FPM, we have always worked to ensure that everyone in our community – colleagues, members, and volunteers – are treated with dignity and respect. Creating a safe, professional, and supportive environment is not new to us; it is central to our values and the way we work together.

The Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023 came into effect on 26 October 2024, placing a new legal duty on employers to take all reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment at work. This duty applies not only to situations where harassment could occur between colleagues, but also extends to interactions with members, volunteers, and others connected with FPM activities.

To strengthen our safeguards, we will update our staff handbook with a clear policy on preventing harassment and by introducing a refreshed risk assessment process to better help us consider and mitigate potential risks.

Each of us play a part in ensuring FPM remains a place where people feel welcome, safe, and respected. That means treating our staff, our members, and our volunteers respectfully, and leading by example in line with our FPM values.

By taking these steps, we protect each other to maintain the culture and reputation that make FPM strong.
