Message of support from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine to our colleagues and the people of Ukraine

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine (FPM) recognises many of our colleagues who are actively involved in research and live in Ukraine and some who are based in the UK whose families are in the terror of war, or on the borders receiving refugees.

We stand in solidarity with all our clinical and research colleagues from the UK Royal Colleges and Faculties in stating that such an act of military aggression is unacceptable on all levels. Recent actions will have an immediate and dramatic effect on the healthcare system in Ukraine and it is likely that the health of that population will suffer in unseen ways for many years to come.

There are almost 100 vital clinical trials running in Ukraine, which is an important conduit of global research. FPM is thinking of the investigators, academics, all the clinical research staff of contract research organisations, the regulators and the patients who have been put at risk as the invasion of Ukraine continues. Access to vital medicines, including antibiotics and chemotherapies, will also be severely impeded and lives will be lost.

We know many of our community and the patients they serve are facing grave uncertainty and we reach out to do what we can to help. We are thinking of you.
