Pharmaceutical Medicine Specialty Training, or PMST, is a cornerstone of FPM’s commitment to producing pharmaceutical physicians who are equipped with the specialist knowledge and capabilities to practise to the highest ethical and professional standards. On successful completion of the programme, trainees are eligible to become Specialist Registrants in Pharmaceutical Medicine with the General Medical Council (GMC).
This is a great opportunity to get involved, to help shape the implementation of FPM’s strategic plan through to 2028, and in particular to play a key role in reviewing specialty training while ensuring continued delivery of a high quality training experience.
Who should apply?
We’re looking for a passionate, committed individual who:
- is a current Fellow of FPM in good standing;
- holds a CCT or CESR in pharmaceutical medicine or has a minimum of five years’ experience as a pharmaceutical physician;
- has a working knowledge of Pharmaceutical Medicine Specialty Training, including the curriculum, and can demonstrate a strong commitment to the specialty;
- has strong intellectual and analytical skills, independent judgement and the ability to work constructively with a wide range of stakeholders, and
- is looking to bring fresh ideas and new perspectives to the role.
How will you contribute?
The Specialty Training Lead will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders in the delivery of specialty training. Key relationships include with FPM’s Specialty Training Manager and the Postgraduate Dean for Pharmaceutical Medicine, with the Chair of FPM’s Education and Standards Committee (ESC), and with the Chair of the Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC).
The Specialty Training Lead is required amongst other things to:
- support and advise a review of the governance and operational delivery of specialty training;
- ensure an appropriate and robust process of recruitment, approvals and induction is in place for new programme trainees;
- ensure that trainees joining the programme have an Educational Supervisor (ES), and to review and advise on training site applications;
- support colleagues in reviewing and refreshing quality processes for specialty training, and supporting their implementation;
- recruit and induct reviewers for the Annual Review of Competency Progression (ARCP) panels, attend and support ARCP meetings as required, and sign off trainee progression;
- represent specialty training at FPM’s Education and Standards Committee (ESC) and attend meetings of the Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC) for Pharmaceutical Medicine.
The Specialty Training Lead will be contracted for 12 months, which may be extended after the initial period. The expectation is the contractor will devote a maximum of two days per calendar month to the role. The remuneration is £550 per day not including expenses.
