The inaugural President’s Lecture marks an exciting, new, invitation-only event. Dr David Jefferys FFPM will deliver a talk, where he will explore future directions in pharmaceutical medicine. The event will take place from 18:00 to 21:00 on Thursday 11 September and will bring together senior figures from across clinical medicine, pharmaceutical medicine and life sciences.

Following the lecture, guests will enjoy a networking reception with refreshments served on the terrace (weather permitting) accompanied by magnificent views towards the London Eye and Southbank – a great setting to reconnect with colleagues.


Meet the speaker

Dr David Jefferys
Dr David Jefferys FFPM

David Jefferys has been at the heart of medicine’s regulation, regulatory science, and product development for over 40 years. Following a career in clinical and academic medicine, David joined the Medicines Division of the UK Department of Health in 1984. He was involved as Director of Licensing and CEO in the creation of both the MCA and the MHRA and worked on the establishment of the European Medicines agency in the EU Commission, and as a CHMP (formerly CPMP) member. He has also worked in medical technology and life sciences as head of the UK medical devices agency and chairman of the EU medical devices committee.

He has chaired a large number of UK government and international committees. He was a founder member of ICH, and later in his career set on the ICH management board and the general assembly representing IFMA.

As a founder member of FPM, David was a board member and trustee for two terms and was awarded the President’s Medal for his services in 2024.  He retired from his post as a senior vice president with Eisai for regulatory, product development strategy, patient safety, and corporate policy in the summer of 2024.

Recently he has been the Mayor of Bromley, a senior lecturer at King’s College London, an examiner at Hertfordshire University, and senior warden of the Society of Apothecaries of London.
