The ‘virtual' National Deanery for Pharmaceutical Medicine (‘the National Deanery') was created so that trainees and their Local Education Providers (i.e. pharmaceutical companies, Clinical Research Organisations and regulatory authorities approved to deliver the PMST curriculum) could relate to a medical deanery, and ensure that the PMST programme is quality managed and meets the regulatory requirements of the GMC.
The National Deanery performs similar functions to medical deaneries in the NHS with regards to specialty training. It is responsible for quality managing the delivery of the PMST programme, conducting ARCPs and RITAs, issuing National Training Numbers (NTNs), organising responses to the GMC's national training survey, and submitting annual reports to the GMC on quality management issues under the Quality Improvement Framework and The Trainee Doctor.
