PMST Enrolment
PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICINE SPECIALTY TRAINING (PMST) ENROLMENT
The enrolment process begins once an applicant has submitted to the Faculty, the
cv template, and, if not currently a member of the Faculty, an
Associate (Trainee) membership application form.
Once an application has been received the Faculty will check that the applicant meets the criteria for PMST. Please see the
Person Specification for the entry and selection criteria and refer to the
PMST curriculum for full details.
Medical graduates who qualified before 2005
The entry and selection criteria detailed in the Person Specification above apply to all applicants to PMST but for medical graduates who qualified before 2005 the clinical training requirement will be as follows:
Doctors who qualified before 2005 and received provisional registration with the General Medical Council before 1st August 2005 will need to demonstrate successful completion of the following clinical training requirements or demonstrate equivalence to them before entry to Pharmaceutical Medicine Specialty Training (PMST):
- One (1) year as Pre-Registration House Officer (PRHO)
-Two (2) years post-registration experience of General Professional Training in approved training posts at Senior House Officer (SHO) level, which would normally involve direct patient care and experience of prescribing and monitoring the effects of drugs. Approved training in a range of specailties is highly recommended but is not required.
For those applicants who meet the above entry criteria, the Faculty assigns a SSA (Senior Specialty Adviser) to the applicant
- the Faculty passes cvs with their checklists to JRCPTB
For those applicants who do not meet the criteria
- the Faculty correponds directly with applicant
- in absence of certainty, the Faculty passes cvs and details to JRCPTB for decision.
Once the application documents have been forwarded to the JRCPTB
- the JRCPTB produces letters to approved applicants enclosing a JRCPTB enrolment pack
- the JRCPTB informs the SSAs which applicants will be contacting them and sends them the necessary blank Forms A and B for completion
- for those with insufficient clinical experience that have been passed to the JRCPTB by the Faculty, the Deputy Manager of the JRCPTB reviews cvs of applicants and if necessary liaises with the JRCPTB Medical Director and/or Chair and Secretary of Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) in Pharmaceutical Medicine
- the applicant is then notified of decision
Following the receipt of the confirmation letter and enrolment pack from the JRCPTB the applicant
- completes the enrolment form and looks at sample Form A and B
- identifies a suitable Educational Supervisor and provides them with Educational Supervisor job description/ advice
- informs Educational Supervisor they also need to meet with SSA
- informs HR personnel that a Form A will be required for Company
- if applicant is first from the Company then HR will need to meet with SSA
- contacts SSA direct to agree date for meeting
- takes qualifications and enrolment form to meeting with SSA
When meeting with SSA
- SSA checks qualifications and signs off JRCPTB enrolment form on front and in middle
- applicant, Educational Supervisor and SSA complete Form B
- Educational Supervisor, HR personnel and SSA complete Form A
- Applicant returns complete package of signed enrolment form, Form A and B, payment, CVs and ethnic monitoring form to JRCPTB
Following receipt of completed documents the JRCPTB check for completeness of documentation
- GMC registration checked using GMC website
- College Membership exam checked by faxing appropriate College or using RCP London Database if MRCP(UK)
- Send copy of paperwork to Director of Education and Training for review
Following receipt of documents from JRCPTB the Director of Education and Training
- approves paperwork and signs Enrolment form, Form A and Form B
- if further information required passes back to JRCPTB with comments
