Committee and Officer Appointments

FACULTY TREASURER

Applications are invited for the role of Treasurer of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine. The Treasurer is a trustee of the Faculty and also a Director under the Companies Act. The role provides an opportunity for a Member or Fellow to actively contribute to the future direction of the Faculty and its activities. An induction programme will be available for the successful applicant. This appointment will take effect from 20 November 2010 when the current Treasurer stands down. The appointment will be for a three-year term of office. The role is non-remunerated but reasonable out-of pocket expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the Faculty's Expense Policy.

A note from the current FPM Treasurer

"Although I have immensely enjoyed my time as Treasurer at the Faculty, I have always considered that it is a sign of a healthy organisation to have a turn-over of Officers. New faces bring new ideas and keep an organisation relevant to its membership. It is time for us to have a new Treasurer.

The role of Treasurer is not to be involved in accounting - the Faculty's staff and our accountant see to that - but to be involved in financial oversight and management, as a Charity Trustee and Director of the Company. The Treasurer does that at two levels; attending the co-ordination committee meetings (every 2 months) to discuss the work of the committees and progress against the annual budget, and at the quarterly Board meetings to consider longer-term strategy and direction of the Faculty. Twice a year there is an opportunity to meet with the Treasurers of other Royal Colleges and Faculties, who are a valuable source of support. The Faculty offers trustee training for the successful applicant and has tried to limit the total time commitment to about a day a month. If you are considering applying and would like to chat more about what is involved, I would be very happy to talk with you. The job description and application form are on the Faculty website and I can be contacted at fpm@fpm.org.uk "
