Election of Fellows Ordinary and Honorary and Members Honorary and by Distinction

Proposals for Election of Members (MFPM) to Ordinary Fellowship 2012
The deadline for applications will be Friday, 4 May 2012.
Please note that eligible Members only will be sent application or invitation forms in late January 2012.

Fellowship of the Faculty is more than passing an examination; it is a demonstration of commitment to the Faculty and an acknowledgement of an individual's contribution to pharmaceutical medicine, its standards and practice.

There are now two routes to Ordinary Fellowship under the revised guidelines agreed by the Board in November 2008.

  1. Members who have held Membership of the Faculty (MFPM) for eight years or more are now invited to apply for Fellowship of the Faculty. The eight years is calculated from the date that the Faculty Board formally approved your application for Membership (MFPM) to the date of the Fellowship Committee meeting to be held on 5 July 2012. The procedure for applications has been simplified to facilitate the process and thereby encourage Members to apply. Applicants are asked to provide written evidence as before, however categories for possession of other qualifications, committee work and duration of employment in industry have been deleted, as emphasis will be placed on contributions to the practice and science of pharmaceutical medicine. A declaration signed by a single Fellow of the Faculty (in good standing) will be required, but neither a citation nor a seconder for the application will be necessary. Notice of the application process and link to the application form will be sent to eligible Members of the Faculty (MFPM) of eight years standing or more.
  2. Members (MFPM) who have been on the GMC Specialist Register for Pharmaceutical Medicine either through a CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) or CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Register) for two years will be invited by the Faculty to become Fellows of the Faculty. In 2012, Fellowship may be awarded to those Members who have been on the GMC Specialist Register for two years as of 5 July 2012 (the date of the Fellowship Committee meeting). Notice of the application process and link to invitation form will be sent directly to eligible Members of the Faculty (MFPM).

The Fellowship Committee will review all applications at its meeting on 5 July 2012. Successful candidates will be formally presented to the President at the annual Fellowship, Membership and Awards Ceremony on 28 November 2012 in London.

The closing date for the receipt of all nomination documentation is Wednesday, 4 May 2012.

Proposals for Election of Honorary Fellows, Honorary Members and Members by Distinction.

Please note that Membership (without examination) has been discontinued. The criteria for Honorary Fellows and Members and Members by Distinction are as follows:

Honorary Fellowship
On the recommendation of the Fellowship and Awards Committee, the Board of Trustees, may bestow Honorary Fellowship on persons of eminence who may or may not be members of the Faculty, and who have made exceptional contributions in the fields of research, teaching or the practice of pharmaceutical medicine, or medical or general science, or society. Honorary Fellows need not be medically qualified. Honorary Fellows will not be eligible to vote or to stand for election to the Board of Trustees unless they have previously been a Member or Fellow of the Faculty. This is the highest honour that the Faculty can bestow on an individual. Such honours are strictly limited. Nominations for Honorary Fellowship can only be made by Fellows of the Faculty who are in good standing and in the form prescribed by the Board of Trustees.

Honorary Membership
On the recommendation of the Fellowship and Awards Committee, the Board of Trustees may bestow Honorary Membership on persons who are not members of the Faculty, and who have made significant contributions in the fields of research, teaching or the practice of pharmaceutical medicine, or medical or general science, or society. Membership by Distinction
On the recommendation of the Fellowship and Awards Committee, the Board of Trustees may bestow Membership by Distinction on pharmaceutical physicians who have made a significant contribution in the fields of research, teaching or the practice of pharmaceutical medicine. This is an exceptional route to Membership for individuals who have made a significant contribution beyond the normal day-to-day practice of pharmaceutical medicine. Nominations for Membership by Distinction can only be made by Fellows of the Faculty who are in good standing and in a form prescribed by the Board of Trustees. Members by Distinction have the same rights, privileges and obligations as Members. Members by Distinction will be able to be nominated for Ordinary Fellowship (FFPM).

Notice of the nomination proceess and a link to the proposal form will be sent to all Fellows of the Faculty in late January.
