Recruitment for members of the Raising Awareness Subcommittee

Following the Faculty Board's strategic review session in October 2010, the Raising Awareness Working Group (RAWG) was established with the remit of considering how to raise awareness of pharmaceutical medicine as a specialty amongst clinicians and also as a career option amongst medical students and junior doctors. The objectives of the group were to explore opportunities to facilitate electives and ‘tester weeks' for students and junior doctors in pharmaceutical medicine, to consider a structured programme of Faculty attendance at medical careers fairs, and to consider methods to raise awareness and ‘dispel myths' about the specialty and pharmaceutical industry more generally.

The RAWG has presented its final recommendations to the Faculty Board, which were enthusiastically received and approved. Therefore we are forming a Raising Awareness Subcommittee (RASC) to continue the good work of the working party.

We would like to invite applications for membership of the subcommittee. Please read the Terms of Reference for the RASC, and Member criteria, before applying. The membership of the Raising Awareness Subcommittee will include its chairperson and a maximum of seven other members each with specific responsibility to ensure cover for the following defined roles:

1. Development of the ‘Student-selected Component' template
2. Development of materials for and coordinating attendance at careers fairs (may involve working with Faculty members outside the subcommittee)
3. Development of the careers section of the Faculty website

If you would like to apply for membership of the group then please email your current CV and a short statement outlining your interest in membership, and relevant experience, to Ben Cottam (b.cottam@fpm.org.uk) by 9am, 12th April. Please stipulate which of the above three workstreams you would most like to be involved in.
